The last credit will be earned at the submission of a report of the excursion, taking place in the second semester (ESRF and CERN). Exam questions

1st of February 2024

Prof. Goderis' part:

These questions are always based on one or more papers. It's therefore a bit difficult and cumbersome trying to solve questions without the paper... Normally, Prof Goderis should make the exam of this examination period available somewhere in November. By all means, feel free to then submit the file to this page!

Prof. Van Meervelts part:

Are the following statements true or false for each specific case? Explain why and provide a detailed description of the subjects in bold. When unveiling the crystal structure of a protein:

  1. Vapor diffusion can be used to obtain a protein crystal.
  2. Solvent flattening solves the phase problem.

When using single crystal crystallography to obtain the structure of a small organic molecule:

  1. The normalized structure factor enables the crystallographer to determine the absolute configuration.
  2. ConQuest is useful during model refinement.
